View Full Version : a few first day thoughts from a EQ2 convert
lo all
having just coverted from eq2 yesterday and being a forum fiend i thought id write my first day experience of the game, and prob will have a few questions to ask.
i started of creating a tauron hunter and got to lvl 6, thought it wasnt for me and i know before you all start it was too early but hey ho! just couldnt get on with it, imo it was moving to slow, so i decided to create a undead warlock and boy am i glad i did, i love it despite being skinny! i have managed to work my way upto lvl 7 and have aquired a lillte pet to do my fighting. since moving along to bree (i think thats what the name was) things have become a little harder but even more exciting. all in all im really enjoying the game and long may it continue.
i was wondering however at what sort of level i will be interacting with other races? and see some guild members?
a few questions
is the only way to aquire spell upgrades to buy them from your class vendor?
do low level purple items drop?
in eq2 we had heritage quests, does wow offer these sort of quests with great reward items?
im sure ill think of other things to ask but as a start here we go!!
oh and hellya, is that your name in-game? ive added you too friends in anticipation of eventually getting a guild invite.
Sarai cant wait to grp up again.
laters and thanks in advance for your help.

Ill answer a few of those :
No low level purples.
Yes there are very many quests with great rewards for your level.
Yes you can only get spell upgrades from your teacher...until patch 1.9 when a few high level spells will drop. There is also a group buff spell taht drops atm for buffing classes.
ah i see, im on nights all this week, so logged out at 1900 time, yes, the name is waychh in game.
thanks for all the help. i dunno if wow has a site like eq2 had, eqplayers basicly listed all the quests you could get and gave walkthroughs for them, also listed all spells for all classes and all armor and items, does wow have one like this?
yup there is, there linked in the wow pve forum
but you can use www.thottbot.com (http://www.thottbot.com) for now

There are tons of sites like that waych, thott is the most popular. Also try
http://wow.allakhazam.com/
The official site and forums (especially class specific forums) are also useful.
I think we have a sticky on the private forums with all kinds of useful links.

Good choice btw... locks are pretty rare at high level and welcome in about any group. Apart from the regular quests, there are a few class specific ones, which will give you some special skill or item.
Best items drop from the instances or reward from instance quest. It really depends on what you want: Do you want to do some serious questing and find it all out yourself, or do you want to level quickly through the 1st 20 levels and catch up with some alts from guildies.
If you want to rush through, get the instance quests and ask a high level guildmember to run you through the Rage Fire Chasm, so you have some decent gear to continue. More important, ask some-1 to make you some bags!! GL ;)

Also, I would *highly* recommend going to http://www.thottbot.com/?p=download and downloading Cosmos UI.
I don't know about any other UI's, but Cosmos adds a massive amount of functionality to the interface that I took for granted after eq2's excellent customisable UI.
Don't be deceived by the simple start to your levelling life btw- the classes gain new abilities that dramatically affect their playstyle up to lvl 40 from what I can gather. Things get much more interesting once u start getting a few levels under your belt. Plus past level 10 you get 'talent points' to customise your char further.

wow does not have heritage quests. It has normal quests, like any other game, but not heritage.
For those who never played EQ: heritage quests are quests that give a "bonus" to the guild. In EQ2 doing those quests, made the guild itself lvl up so houses and so could be purchased

i found out most class only get really fun after lvl 20.

They also required a damn silly amount of camping and were a huge timesink. I hated them with a vengeance and yet some of the items were 'must haves' at your level and you were pretty much required to do them.
Not missing the camping at all. If a named is needed for a quest in WoW, I've pretty much found they're either up, or on fast spawn timers if someone has just done it. (NB- Obviously not been playing long, so I could be mistaken :o )
