View Full Version : Advice
Hello everyone,
First of all apologies for this being a general WoW question and not specific to your Guild. As I've not purchased the game yet I've no access to the offical forums to ask and I'm finding it difficult to get answers.
I used to play Neverwinter Nights with a UK based RP guild for over 2 years, strictly RP no 'HacknSlash'. We split about a year ago and ever since I've been trying to find a home which would give me similar character emersion. I never found anything as most MMORGP's always had someone shouting 'w00t! phat loot! Let's go hunting' and gave up. Today I found out that WoW actually has a RP only server and on this basis I'm willing to give it a go and buy in on my way home from work tonight.
My question is would I be recommended to use the PvE server first to order to get familar with the game mechanics and story line before heading to the RP server? Also, when I get 'hooked' into the game I'll be looking for a UK based guild, would my gaming style fit in here?
EDIT:
And if anyone has any other useful advice about WoW before I start then please feel free.
Many thanks and apologies again,
Mark
That's exactly what I'm doing, and I haven't looked back.
My main character is a level 50 hunter on PvE, and yeah... theres a lot of l33t skillerzzz on there... but you can ignore them and get on with what you need to do.
But I've recently started an alt on Argent Dawn (the RP server) and whilst you get a few idiots wandering in not knowing what theyre doing... Blizzard are doing a great job of cracking down on them and establishing a strong RP community. So, the more the merrier. Bring your clan to Argent Dawn. :)
there are 3 types of server in world of warcraft, they are the pve servers where you can go anywhere apart from opposing factions town citys, without fear of being aatcked by other players unless you tag your self open for pvp or attack one of them who is tagged,
The pvp servers which as the title says you are permamently tagged pvp open so can be attacked anywhere as far as i know.
The role play servers where i belive it runs on the rules of a pve server nor sure. apart from the fact you are expected to role play your character.
Phoenix legion is not a official Roleplaying guild, but we do not state you cannot roleplay in the guild just dont expect the rest to roleplay back.
Phoenix legion will allways be a home to anyone who wants to RP. However, we don't enforce it. so we allways have a mix of RP'ers and non Rp'ers..(i play a grumpy git)
All we ask is that everyone respects each other and has fun.
Hi Mark and welcome to our boards :)
Our guild has had a long association with an rp guild by the name of the Order of the Knights Templar, and they have a guild set up on one of the PvE roleplaying servers right now. I think they call it the Templar Order (Alliance of course.. got to have paladins ;))
Here's a link to their site..http://wow.knightstemplar.cc/
As for whether you choose PvE or PvP... thats up to your taste. In a roleplay sense, many feel that if they see an enemy faction character wandering their lands,or in contested lands they should be able to attack him/her on sight. This is not possible on a PvE server unless the player has chosen to be pvp enabled. Of course, this works both ways, and you should be aware that after around level 20 you will spend most of your life in contested lands... :)
welcome Mark!
Well, I chose the PVP Server, been here since day one and love it! I can agree with the above threads though, it's basically horses for courses, and what suits one may not suit another...
Best advice I can give is to think about your playstyle and think about what server would suit you :)

.
what you mean play ?????
Thanks for your advice everyone,
I think my best route would be the PvE servers and play non-RP for a while to get my head around the game mechanics and learn the lore of WoW, and hopefully remember I'm not in the Forgetten Realms ;)
I bought the game last night but didn't get around to installing it as we had forgot to buy new school shoes for the kids who go back today so last night was a hectic . I've brought the manual in work and hopefully will get time to read up before logging in. Hope to see in game, if you see a newbie wandering about looking lost then it's a good chance it's me.
 more people from St Helens!!

I'm a wooly back born and bred. Can't drag me away!
Mark, if you're going to play on an ordinary non-rp PvE server, and you are interested in getting to know our guild better and perhaps even joining us, make sure you make a Horde character on Draenor server.
Then contact me, as I'm the recruitment officer :)
And on a completely irrelevant sidetrack.. ooo look! New Smilies!!! :flower:

haha, what do you mean you roleplay at being grumpy! :mog:
