i know this may seem a little out of blue but i wanted to get your opinion on smthg

right now im specced for pure pvp ownage with 25/0/25 talent build going for rank 8 in steady steam with hemorage and prep having no points in combat and imp backstab makes me less effective dps wise in raids although i can spam hemoragge 5 times while all of u have to wait for 3rd sinister strike or backstab anyway what im trying to ask is; is there a certain build required for instances concerning rogues or am i allowed to go amok on mobs with this spec although if need should arise i can change my spec in a heart beat

i ll be glad to hear your comments guys, thx for your concern in advance

I have Innurdz pretty much instance specced, not just for damage (in fact my damage output isnt so great) but for mob control (imp sap, and lots of extra combo points) as well as solo PvE ability.

I can assure you I am about to change this to be honest. I thought that a spec such as mine would work wonders in UBRS/Scholo/Strat, and not surprisingly it does, making me feel like I have more purpose than just a DPSer, but im finding myself doing those instances less and less.

I hate to say it, but rogue is something of a cookie cutter class. Basically you spec it for damage or PvP, and im leaning toward PvP in my next respec. A combat rogue is basically a DPS warrior, but without the ability to offtank where needed, and a different damage/resilience ratio. At least a PvP build lets you play "as a rogue" when you want to PvP, and you will still DPS at a reasonable rate in instances.

Id say if you are happy as you are Az, dont change it mate.

I agree, play what you want to play, however for instances: improved sap ftw.

Stolen from Sheepk from our own boards.

Builds

21/8/22

Subtlety Mastery
Master of Deception Rank 5
Opportunity Rank 5
Initiative Rank 5
Improved Ambush Rank 3
Improved Sap Rank 3
Preparation Rank 1
Subtlety Total: 22

Combat Mastery
Improved Gouge Rank 3
Improved Sinister Strike Rank 2
Improved Backstab Rank 3
Combat Total: 8

Assassination Mastery
Improved Eviscerate Rank 3
Malice Rank 5
Ruthlessness Rank 3
Murder Rank 2
Relentless Strikes Rank 1
Lethality Rank 5
Vile Poisons Rank 1
Cold Blood Rank 1
Assassination Total: 21

Alternatives:
You can take Camo instead of MoD for better stealthed speed at the cost of a greater detection chance;
You can dump a point from something in Subtlety to get Imp. Cheap Shot 1/2;
You can substitute 1 point in any other skill in Assassination for Vile Poisons (such as instant poison or remorseless attacks

This build gets you Preparation, which allows you to cut all your cooldowns, Cold Blood, which allows you to have a guaranteed crit, and Imp. Sap, which can be very helpful for pulling singles. This build has lower DPS than the 30(31) build below, but higher survivability and flexibility due to Prep. and Imp. Sap.

21/8/22 Is the bread and butter of PvP, and a little lacking in PvE and raiding, and Extremely cooldown dependent. You can Cold Blood-Ambush-vanish-prep-ambush-vanish-cold blood-eviscerate, but then you'll be pretty much useless while you wait for CB, Prep, and vanish to cooldown again. Dropping a point from Iniative allows you to put it into Imp Cheapshot 1/2, which allows for much easier and safer stunlocking against warriors, who, otherwise, murder this build.

30(31)/8/13(12)

Subtlety Mastery
Master of Deception Rank 5
Opportunity Rank 5
Improved Ambush Rank 3
Subtlety Total: 13

Combat Mastery
Improved Gouge Rank 3
Improved Sinister Strike Rank 2
Improved Backstab Rank 3
Combat Total: 8

Assassination Mastery
Improved Eviscerate Rank 3
Malice Rank 5
Ruthlessness Rank 3
Murder Rank 2
Relentless Strikes Rank 1
Lethality Rank 5
Vile Poisons Rank 2
Improved Kidney Shot Rank 3
Cold Blood Rank 1
Seal Fate Rank 5
Assassination Total: 30

Alternatives: Same as above, plus -
You can drop a point out of Imp. Ambush (losing 15% to crit) and pick up Vigor (+10 max energy) instead. This alternative is the 31/8/12 build.
You can drop the points in Vile Poisons and move them to Improved Slice and Dice, which provides a substansial damage boost and, with Seal fate, can usually be up constantly as long as you're in combat.

Whether you go 30 or 31, this is a high DPS build. You lose Preparation and Imp. Sap, but Seal Fate lets you build up combo points quickly.

This is The most versatile build available for rogues in terms of PvP and PvE, it has high burst damage, but also a good amount of sustained damage in it too.

30/21

Combat Mastery

Improved Gouge Rank 3
Improved Sinister Strike Rank 2
Deflection Rank 5
Precision Rank 5
Riposte Rank 1
Dual Wield Specialization Rank 4
Blade Flurry Rank 1
Combat Total: 21

Assassination Mastery

Improved Eviscerate Rank 3
Malice Rank 5
Ruthlessness Rank 3
Murder Rank 2
Improved Slice and Dice Rank 2
Relentless Strikes Rank 1
Lethality Rank 5
Improved Kidney Shot Rank 3
Cold Blood Rank 1
Seal Fate Rank 5
Assassination Total: 30

Alternatives:
Drop the point from either riposte or blade flurry and put it into the fifth point of DW Spec. This will edge you out on damage at the cost of a little versatility
Drop the point in Blade Flurry and move it to vigor. This is a SSspam build, so the point in vigor is really lost on it, but you're welcome to use it anyway, and give me some feedback on it if you do.

This goes on the same principle as 30/8/13, but with swords/maces.

17/34

Combat Mastery

Improved Gouge Rank 3
Improved Sinister Strike Rank 2
Improved Backstab Rank 3
Deflection Rank 5
Precision Rank 5
Riposte Rank 1
Dual Wield Specialization Rank 5
Blade Flurry Rank 1
Dagger Specialization Rank 5
Aggression Rank 3
Adrenaline Rush Rank 1
Combat Total: 34

Assassination Mastery

Improved Eviscerate Rank 3
Malice Rank 5
Ruthlessness Rank 3
Relentless Strikes Rank 1
Lethality Rank 5
Assassination Total: 17

Alternatives:
Drop the points in imp backstab if you aren't using daggers, put it in Imp SnD. This is 20/31.
Use Whatever weapon spec you are using.

This is REALLY heavy into sustained DPS, but sacrifices almost all of the rogue burst damage, and probably THE best MC/Ony/BWL damage build. You will get called a warrior in leather while using this build, point out that arms/fury warriors are rogues in plate. This build is all about knowing when to fire off AR. For a little pointer on that, it's late in the fight. If you start attacking the mob as soon as the warrior, you WILL gain aggro, even if it's a Really good tank. On bossfights, it's a good idea to hold off on attacking the boss until they're at around 90-95%. Depending on the boss, you'll want to fire off AR around 20-30% life, if there are more than one like-built rogues in the party, you could drop the boss before he pulls of whatever desparation move he has. This is the highest DPS in the game for swordwhores.

16/25/10 aka I'm on a PvE server and don't do battlegrounds

Subtlety Mastery
MoD Rank 5
Opportunity Rank 5
Subtlety Total: 10

Combat Mastery
Lightning Reflexes Rank 5
Improved Backstab Rank 3
Deflection Rank 2
Precision Rank 5
Dagger Specialization Rank 5
Dual Wield Specialization Rank 5
Combat Total: 25

Assassination Mastery
Malice Rank 5
Ruthlessness Rank 3
Improved Slice and Dice Rank 2
Relentless Strikes Rank 1
Lethality Rank 5
Assassination Total: 16

This build does more DPS than anything else in the game in PvE. Of course, you've completely and utterly gimped yourself in PvP without any hope of repair. This is what daggerfags will all have to use to keep up with mages once both sides have Blackwing gear. Fun, neh?

I can PvP and PvE but there are slightly better builds for both but few as good AT both simultaneously.

21/20/10

Assassination 21
----------------
Malice 5
Improved Eviscerate 3
Improved Slice n Dice 3
Ruthlessness 3
Relentless 1
Lethality 5
Cold Blood 1

Combat 20
---------
Improved Gouge 3
Improved Sinister Strike 2
Improved Backstab 3
Precision 5
Improved Evasion 2
Dual Wield Specialization 5

Subtlety 10
-----------
Camouflage 5
Opportunity 5

Basically, this build allows you to take all 3 backstab skills (lethality, opp and imp bs) to give you those high damage stabs that make PvP so nice. It also allows for improved slice n dice and dual wield for PvE, which will give you probably 45-50 dps over what a prep/cb build can do (including precision, covered next). Further, even if you have a good amount of +hit from equipment, precision will help you ALOT in MC/BWL.

This build is absolutely rock solid, and there's nothing you 'cant' do with it ... improved evasion, though a small bonus, further helps you in whatever situation you find yourself in (I'd rather have taken improved kick, but that's at 20 points)

Final Thoughts on builds:
21/8/22 is your best friend in WSG and world PvP, sprint evasion prep sprint evasion is an almost certain flag capture on WSG.

30/8/13 I can't really comment on, because I haven't used it.

30/21 is probably the best all-around build in available for rogues, and can get you from 1-60 before you can say Rouge. This is also the best build available for farming and instance runs up to and including UBRS 15 man

17/34-20/31 is THE high end PvE Sword build, from a ten-man of UBRS to Blackwing Lair, this is your single best bet for laying out the heavy damage in those long fights with various Gods and Demigods.
