Hi all,

Just to let you all know that following my 4 month battle with Dell they're finally collecting my computer on Friday and giving me a full refund. So, after Friday I won't be in-game for a while until I manage to get another machine. Will probably be about 2 weeks.

Also, anyone got any tips for places to buy a system? (not Dell or Alienware though)

Hi

And grats on finally getting something from a company like DELL

I can recommend using a company called MESH computers

http://www.meshcomputers.com/

I bought my computer from them about a year ago and i have had no problems...you get a year free before you start paying back.

I got quad core 2.4g each, 2gb ram, 1TB hard drive (2 x 500gb) and high spec graphics card and Printer/Scanner/fax machine all for £1600

If that doesnt float your baot there is also a company called Novatech

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/

i bought a laptop over 2 years ago and again had no problems with them.

I hope this has helpped.

Dhaos has got a point mate, I just bought a pretty straight forward book on how to build your own, could save you big bucks Buck,(umm) and you get exactly what you want in there..

Downside is compatibility issues, motherboard to cpu to memory to hard drive and so on but it might be worth looking into.

www.overclockers.co.uk

They have motherboard bundles with ram and CPU so you don't have to worry about compatibility. Also some decent PCs but slightly expensive.

You don't have to buy from OCUK, can always look at the motherboard, CPU and RAM then order elsewhere ;)

If you want a custom built machine and don't want the hassle of building it (or you don't have the room to build it) I'd recomment you look at Vadim. www.vadim.co.uk (http://www.vadim.co.uk) .. don't let the prices put you off they are for the really uber systems .. you can still build reasonable system at a decent price and the customer after service is second to none from personal experience. Only one stipulation though .. no refunds ;)

Alternatively if you do want to self build .. use the vadim site to configure your system and then buy the parts.

Finally received my refund from dell today. That company has some serious issues with customer service.

My advice is that if you do have a Dell machine and need to contact them, write them letters and don't bother phoning their 'help' lines. The only time they've ever responded to me is when I've sent them letters, all the other times they just said we'll phone you back and they never have. It's taken me 5 months to get my money back from Dell. I'd better stop ranting now.
I'll probably be buying a new machine next month sometime. Hope to be back online soon.
